TOURO COLLEGE MASTER’S SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM
ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
OVERALL ASSESSMENT FINDINGS
LAST COMPLETED DECEMBER 2018

All Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) programs measure and report student learning outcomes. Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies which comprise the accreditation standards of CSWE. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice which all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by social work programs for each competency. The Touro College Graduate School of Social Work operationalizes the CSWE competencies via various field-based and course-based measures. While competency benchmarks for individual measures varies[1], each one corresponds to an individual student grade of 80%.

[1] For example, on field-based measures, individual items are scored on a 5-point Likert scale. A score of 3 signifies “Achieved - performance meets expectations for students at this level and continuing improvement is demonstrated” and is the competency benchmark for this measure. Each of our course-based measures has an assignment and associated rubric with detailed descriptions for what is considered competent performance for particular assignment elements.
