Assistant Professor Graduate School of Social Work

Denise Gosselin is an assistant professor at Touro University Graduate School of Social Work. Dr. Gosselin received her Ph.D. from Fordham University, her MA from the New School University, and her BA from Fairleigh Dickenson University. She has extensive teaching experience, starting her career in 2001 as a social studies teacher at James Ferris High School in Jersey City, NJ. In 2012 she used her teaching skills and knowledge of history to engage in policy practice and advocacy focusing on social policies that support healthy aging, and financial security for older adults. She advocated and was involved in policy practice that promoted the rights of older adults while working for Live On New York, formally known as Council of Senior Centers and Services, AARP NY and AARP Office of International Affairs, the United Nations, the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and the New York Academy of Medicine.

 While working toward her doctoral degree in social work, she worked as a part-time instructor teaching social work courses at Essex County College, Newark, NJ, Social Welfare Policy I at Rutgers University, Social Welfare Policy I and II, Social Work Research I &II at Kean University, Social Welfare Policy I and II, Human Behavior and the Social Environment, and Health Policy at Fordham University, and Social Welfare Policy at Hunter College.

Her research interest is focused on health disparities among older racial and ethnic minorities, the social determinants of health, and healthy aging. Her dissertation examined social isolation among low-income older Hispanics who live in an urban community.

At Touro GSSW, Dr. Gosselin teaches Social Welfare Policy I and II, Foundation for Social Work Research and Advance Research, Values and Ethics, and ISJ.
