Graduate School of Social Work Professor Offers Clinical Seminar to Ohel Professionals

Seminar Offers Techniques Based on Internal Family Systems Model

April 28, 2011

New York, N.Y. – The Touro Graduate School of Social Work recently offered Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services professional staff members a clinical seminar in appreciation of the organization’s numerous efforts to support the Touro College Graduate School of Social Work and its students.

Dr. Steven Krantz, associate clinical professor at the Touro Graduate School of Social Work, presented a cutting edge model of psychotherapy called Internal Family Systems, a model that integrates psychodynamic and spiritual approaches to counseling and that Dr. Krantz is specially trained to teach. The seminar received excellent feedback from the Ohel professionals who attended the training.

Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services, a Brooklyn-based social service agency that primarily serves the Orthodox Jewish community, has a long-standing relationship with the Touro College Graduate School of Social Work. Many Touro students participate in internships and field study at Ohel, where they are able to gain hands-on experience in social work. David Mandel, CEO of Ohel, also serves as chairman of the Graduate School of Social Work’s professional advisory committee.

Dr. Krantz teaches social work practice courses at the Graduate School of Social Work, as well as courses on the treatment of addiction.

The master’s program at Touro College Graduate School of Social Work is designed to train clinical social work practitioners to awaken and enliven the innate ability of individuals, families, groups and communities to learn to meet their own needs and sustain their own state of equilibrium, thereby enhancing human well-being. The program meets all academic requirements for both social work licenses: LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) and LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).
